How many cities can they boast a birthday dating back to the B.C. era? Yerevan can. In 2019, he celebrated his 2801-year anniversary. This ancient city was founded in 782 BC by Argishti I, king of Ancient Urartu, who erected a fortress on the hill of Arin-Berd, calling it Erebuni. The fortress gave its name to the city, which grew around it for many hundreds of kilometers.
The Еrevan is built on the principle of a circle from which the streets diverge in rays. From north to west Yerevan crosses the Hrazdan River gorge with picturesque parks, lakes and waterfalls, cafes and restaurants. The "Akhtanak" bridge is crossed over the gorge. It offers a beautiful panorama of the city. The buildings made of colored tuff give the streets an unusual variety of colors. From afar, the houses look like toy houses made up of cubes of different colors. From the "Akhtanak" bridge begins the avenue bearing the name of the creator of the Armenian alphabet Mesrop Mashtots - the main street of Yerevan, which stretches for two kilometers. Mashtots Avenue is the center of all cultural sights of the city, where there are numerous museums, Opera and Ballet Theatre. The avenue is completed by the treasury of the Armenian written language - the Matenadaran building.
The city center, fringed by a ring of boulevards, is decorated with the Republic Square, surrounded by government buildings. There is also the Museum Complex (which unites the Picture Gallery of Armenia, the Historical Museum, the Museum of Literature and Art, the Museum of the History of Yerevan, the Museum of Russian Art, the Museum of Modern Art) and a number of other attractions on the square.
